- Keating was a sportscaster for Bally Sports Detroit, the regional sports network for the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings. He had been with the network since 1997. He began his broadcasting career while a student at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. He worked at the school’s student-run radio station, WSRX. After graduating, he got a job at WZZR, a radio station in Grand Rapids. He used the on-air name “Steve Knight” because there was already another on-air personality named “John” at the station.
